What to do on a cold day

Well this morning we woke-up to a very cold house...at first we thought maybe the furnace was just having trouble keeping up since it was so cold outside, but we soon discovered sometime during the night the furnace had quit! So by the time me and the girls got up for school it was down to 49 degrees in our house, that is cold!!! We all had some hot cereal for breakfast and bearly wanted to move we were all so cold.





Anyways, we had someone come out to service out furnace, we were very glad to hear the door bell ring shortly after 10:30. He quickly discovered what was wrong and by 1:00 my house temp went back up to a nice and cozy 70. We were all very thankful for the heat!! The things you take for granted, never realize what they are until you don't have them!!





Anyways, this post is suppose to be about play dough......so after Makayla got home from school today we decided to make some play dough, which is very easy and very fun thing to do with your kids if you haven't done that before. Here are a few pictures of the girls making the play dough along with the recipe.



Lots of stirring.....

and even more stirring and mixing.......

It looks more like sticky slime but don't worry it will eventually turn into play dough....

Here you go....some yellow play dough!

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 1 1/2 cups salt
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 t. cream of tartar
  • 4 T oil
  • food coloring as you wish

Mix ingredients together. Heat on low heat until mixture "lumps" then stir into a dough consistency. Store in a plastic bag or air-tight container. That's it.....have fun!

I also have another play dough recipe where you use Kool-Aide, which gives it a nice fruity smell! You can email me if you want that recipe.

Sorry to hear about your bout with cold. So glad to hear it didn't take long to fix and warm up. My kids love making playdough and even more love playing with it. I actually like the recipe with the kool-aid as it has a nice scent Have you tried that one?

From our home to yours....

Welcome to our home at Christmas. When I heard that Boomama was going to be having a Christmas Tour of Homes , I thought that sounded like so much fun because so many of our family and friends aren't able to make it out to visit us during the Christmas season. So here are a few pictures of our home decorated for Christmas. As you walk in our front door we have this little tree sitting in our entry way As you can see I really like snowman! This is leading into the family room... This tree is in our family room and it is decorated with all of our family ornaments. Each year we buy the girls an ornament that represents something from the year for that child. It is a tradition that I have continued from my childhood. My favorite ornaments are the ones that are homemade by the girls! This is our big tree that is more formally decorated and is in our living room. 1 Year Later

Just the other day I was looking back at some of my posts and realized that I started our family blog 1 year ago this month. I can't believe it has already been a year. My first post was about celebrating the 4th of July at Mark and Jane's. On Friday we will be heading out to Mark and Jane's for another great 4th with our friends. I have really enjoyed keeping up with our family blog. I hope that you have also enjoyed reading each of my posts. My main reason for doing this blog was to keep in touch with our friends and family through various postings.
