Random Acts of kindness

At the beginning of the year Jeremy and I sat down and thought through some "new" ways to help the girls accomplish their chores with good attitudes. We have always said that we did not want to pay our kids to do chores. We would instead pay them for "extra" things that we would ask them to do that was not a part of their daily chores.

So we came up with this new system and so far it seems to be working out pretty well. Every time we notice one of the girls doing something that wasn't asked of them like picking up a mess that wasn't made by them or having a good attitude when asked to do something, any "acts of kindness" that we notice without them pointing it out, we give them a star. After 3 stars, they get to pick out of a jar. In the jar we put all sorts of "fun" things like:
  • have a friend spend the night
  • play an extra 20 minutes of webkinz
  • get some candy from Walgreen's (their new favorite store)
  • have a friend over for the afternoon
  • call a friend for 10 minutes
  • go to Dairy Queen

So tonight Marissa was able to pick out of the jar and she picked...... go to Dairy Queen for a special treat. So we loaded up the family and all headed to DQ for a treat.

We are hoping that the girls will learn the meaning behind Philippians
2:4-8 which is:

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the
interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of
Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God
something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Here is a picture of the jar....

One of our favorite places to go to.....doesn't matter if it is the middle of winter or not we still like our ice cream!

Here are some pictures of the girls enjoying their treat......

I know how my sister loves her ice cream... are you sure you didn't talk Marissa into choosing DQ as her treat?

Good job, Marissa! I'm so proud of you, but I must say I am not surprised. :) Love, Mrs. McCashen
