Operation OTHERS FIRST!

Tonight was a particularly special night at the Brown household. We spent our normal Tuesday Night Family night filling our gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child .

We started the night out by watching a few videos called "follow the box" from the OCC blog (definitely worth the time if you haven't seen them). It sincerely brought tears to my eyes to think that we have some small part in delivering the ultimate gift to children AROUND THE WORLD (each box earns Samaritan's Purse the platform to share the Gospel with the children who recieve the gifts!).

After dinner, we loaded up and headed to the store to enjoy a night of shopping for the children - WHAT A BLAST! Here are a few pictures of the girls at Dollar General...

Each year that we have done this has been better than the last. This year, Marissa heard the total for the gifts for the box and told mommy "that is almost as much as Baby Alive." It was a great opportunity to point out how incredibly blessed we are and how much people around the world are in need.

If you haven't already filled a box (or 10) for Operation Christmas Child, I sincerely suggest that you do so... the experience really has the potential to warm your own heart... it's even more amazing when it warms the heart of your children!

P.S. ATTENTION NEW HOPE PEOPLE: Don't forget that we are loading the Semi truck for OCC on Sunday at 4:00. If you are thinking "plenty of people will show up, they don't need me," YOU ARE WRONG... we need every available person to put their handprints on these boxes and be a part of delivering the most amazing gift of all to children around the world!!!! Plus, it's a great opportunity to drop off those extra boxes you will pick up tomorrow :-)

We did OCC for the first time this year. The kids had a blast shopping for the boy or girl in their age range and truly realized even at their young age how fortunate we really are.

We had a fun idea this year. In addition to our usual boxes, we decided not to get gifts for the grandparents. (They have everything they need and if not, they just go buy it!) So, we filled 6 extra boxes using the $ we would have spent on gifts for them. Then we bought cheap 5 X 7 frames and took a picture of our kids with the boxes. We are giving the grandparents the photos and asking them to put them in a prominent place so they will remember that 6 boys were blessed in their honor. (We chose all 10-14 aged boys, figuring they were the category who were least often bought for.)So, if you have hard-to-buy-for parents like we do, go get some more boxes!!
